Farmer Greg Purington-Brown and his wife, Heidi, started caring for the newborn lamb right away. From bottle feedings to keeping him warm while it got colder outside, they became his stand-in parents.

The couple fed Nugget by bottle, hoping to reintroduce him to his mother once he was stronger.
“He wasn’t a good nurser,” Heidi explained. “His mother saw him getting progressively weaker and when that happens, it is just natural instinct that they prioritize their healthy lambs.”

When that didn’t work, Greg and Heidi decided to fully incorporate Nugget into their lives. They would let him join them on their road trips into town while they ran errands. He even slept inside their house in a little baby bed they made up for him.
Eventually, Nugget upgraded to even better digs… in Greg and Heidi’s own bed!
