Unique “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Display Carves Out World Record.

Sunnyfields Farm in Southampton recently experienced a “Nightmare Before Christmas” moment. They created the moment to break the Guinness World Record for the largest cucurbita mosaic (image) category. The image they created was a replica of Jack Skellington from the 1993 film. The scene was Jack singing “Jack’s Lament,” and was created using only pumpkins!

As the film celebrates its 30th anniversary, the mosaic seemed a fitting tribute. The entire design measures approximately 2,081 square feet. The owners of Sunnyfields Farms, the Nelson family, said the Jack Skellington creation took around ten hours to complete. The crew consisted of five people. With more than 10,000 pumpkins in the mosaic, that’s a lot of heavy lifting!

In an interview with Guinness World Records, the Nelson family described the Jack Skellington construction:

They are actually fruit and a mixture of pumpkins and squash. The orange and white are pumpkin, the green outline is Gem Rolet Squash, which is a staple food in South Africa and then the blue is Crown Prince squash which is fantastic to eat with a bright orange flesh.

Once construction was complete, the Jack Skellington mosaic was examined by GWR officiants. They check that it meets guidelines and includes the necessary elements. Once certification was complete, a certificate was presented to the Nelson clan. Standing before their masterpiece, Ian, Louise (the founders), and their son Tom received the certificate from GWR Adjudicator Jack Brockbank.
