Employees want to clean up, lock up, and go home at the end of the workday. Nobody appreciates a “last call Karl” showing up with complaints about the posted hours. The employees at a jet ski rental recently had to deal with that unruly last-minute customer. When it was quitting time, they needed to lock up the jet skis, but a sea lion was intent on filing a customer service complaint!

The angry customer lay on the dock, blocking workers from performing their duties. The customer barked loudly to protest the injustice of being asked to vacate the area. The workers’ soft pleas fell on deaf ears as the sea lion’s whining complaints continued unabated.
All kidding aside, this happy fellow is a California sea lion. The animals inhabit West Coast beaches, cliffs, buoys, and apparently jet ski docks. Many of the commenters noted this handsome guy’s styling hairdo. The tuft, resembling a mohawk, identifies this as a subadult or adult male. These mammals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
Because of their protected status, these poor employees can’t do much to make the sea lion depart the area. They can try to coax him verbally, tempt him with fish, or perhaps make loud noises until he leaves. But, if the dock is his chosen perch, that is where he will stay.
Unless it is breeding season, sea lions are relatively docile. Many have training in circus and aquarium acts balancing balls on their noses, playing music with special instruments, and clapping on command. The California sea lion is highly intelligent, interacts well with humans, and learns quickly.
Hopefully, he leaves soon. Please share if you laughed at this sea lion’s silly antics.
