Is there ever a convenient time for road construction? The answer is a resounding “no,” of course, but that doesn’t make the inconvenience any less frustrating. This is something that the Washington Department of Transportation (DOT) understands well. On social media, countless folks submit complaints to them about road problems. So, when it came time to announce that major work will be done over the summer, they wanted to find a way to soften the news.

Whoever was in charge of finding a creative way to do so deserves a raise. Locals are loving this announcement video. Best of all, so are folks from all over the country! That’s because the video features a heavy metal theme that, for some reason, works oddly well. Not because it makes much sense, really, but because it doesn’t. See what I mean for yourself in the hilarious video below.
@washingtonstatedot SUMMAH COOOOONSTRUCTION IS SO METAL! 🤘 But literally. Because of all the machinery. If you’ve ever found yourself musing, cursing or rage tweeting: “When are they going to fix the potholes/repair this thing?!” …This one is for you. We have a mosh pit of 93 statewide projects on tap this summer (and that does’t count day-to-day maintenance, emergencies and local city and county projects!), which means that if you drive a vehicle just about anywhere, you’re almost certain to encounter road work. If that feels like a lot, it is! The truth is, we’ll be doing more road work than ever the next few years. But we have to do this work. Here’s what you can do to ride through the CONCRETE CARNAAAAGE: – Get familiar with the WSDOT app and our real-time travel map. (Search “WSDOT travel map” on your favorite search engine) – Consider alternative ways to get around — such as carpooling, bicycling, buses, Link Light Rail, the Sounder Train or Amtrak Cascades. – Give yourself plenty of time to get wherever you need to go. Leave early when you can. Let’s EMBRACE THE CHAAAAOS… while also paying attention to the road and following work zone speed limits. Stay safe. Stay alert. Stay metal. 🤘

Based on all of the positive feedback this video is getting, it seems they can count this one as a huge success!
“Don’t live in WS but social media team needs a raise. I watched this whole thing,” one person writes, with another adding, “I’m glad this is what a little bit of my tax dollars are going to. We need a gen z video editor in every major department, thank you.”
