“When The Sheep Get Out And The Dog Has A Case Of The Mondays”

Left image shows escaped sheep grazing happily in an orchard. Right image shows the guard dog being lazy on a Monday morning.

Burroughs Family Farms is a small, 5th generation organic farm with nut tree orchards and a few critters. They have a reasonably sizeable flock of sheep and a livestock guard dog to keep them safe. However, when it’s Monday morning, and the sheep get out, the dog may not be ready to begin its work day.

On this particular morning, while the sheep graze in the “forbidden pasture,” the guard dog is attentive. However, he is not putting forth any effort to control the rambling animals. He is lying in the grass, trying to collect his thoughts and muster some Monday morning energy. That attitude seems to meld well on the Burroughs Farm, where life progresses leisurely.

Farm life appears to be laid back at the Burroughs Family Farms. Although the family is productive and always busy, no one can fault this poor dog for taking a break after the sheep got out. He just wants to chill out and let Monday happen. The voice track on the video says it all. “I can’t just start my job up immediately. I need time to decompress or I will die…”

No one wants this poor, overworked doggo to die, so the family let him decompress. The sheep are happily grazing in their newly discovered pasture. They don’t appear to be hurting anything in the orchard and are showing no signs of distress. Life is good.

I am confident that we can all empathize with this slow-moving guard dog. Some days, and especially on Mondays, it can be challenging to get moving. When a holiday falls midweek, it seems like we have extra Mondays, and no one enjoys that!

Please share if you feel this dog’s despair.
