At Henderson Animal Care Hospital in Henderson, Texas, they treat animals from teeny tiny exotic pets to large farm animals. Every day holds wonders and mysteries. There are routine cats and dogs, perhaps a lizard, and sometimes cows and horses. However, no one was expecting to see a disgruntled owl waiting to see the vet.

The owl is at the vet as part of their wildlife rehabilitation efforts. As a full-service vet, the clinic doesn’t specialize in animal rescues, but they can handle most circumstances. Owls are not always the most cooperative patients, but HACH is willing to accept the challenge.
The first thing they need to do is examine the owl to determine what type of vet care it needs. They have the ability for surgical care in most cases, but hopefully the owl won’t need that. Dr. Cavitt is fond of saying, “if it breathes, we will help it.” This owl is not the first owl who has been to HACH for treatment at the clinic.
We’re not sure what kind of owl this is, but it might be a juvenile great horned owl. It has the right coloration, tuft size and shape, and facial features. HACH may post an update on its condition and identification on their TikTok page, but they haven’t yet. This may also be long-eared owl, but the ear tufts aren’t right. This owl has similar coloration and features, but the ear tufts are thinner and taller than those of the great horned owl.
No matter what specific type of owl it is, the vet at HACH will have it patched up and on its way to healing in no time.
Please share if you think owls are cool.
