Everyone deserves access to a safe place to rest their heads at night. Unfortunately, this is often easier said than done. In addition to skyrocketing rental costs, folks may find themselves struggling to find a place to live based on things like their mental health conditions. That’s the situation one woman in the UK found herself in years ago… until she finally stumbled upon the exact rental property she needed.

Anna, a property investor, found that one of her rentals was particularly popular. According to a post she made online, over 100 people showed interest in home. In the end, however, she says she went with the one who “nobody would rent to,” noting that this woman was “also on benefits.” But soon after she moved in, Anna noticed something unusual…
The woman had a whole lineup of photos to hang on her wall… but they were on the floor instead. When Anna asked about it, the woman was honest: She was worried they were going to ask her to leave. In other words, landing this home felt too good to be true. So hanging those photos, only to have them taken down soon after, would have been all-the-more heartbreaking.
When a Woman With “Mental Health Conditions” is Given a Chance With Her Dream Rental Property, Her Life Changes
Even with reassurance, the woman couldn’t get herself to hang the photos just yet. In fact, two years passed with no changes. Finally, when it came time for Anna to renew her lease for a third year, she did things a bit differently. Instead of a one year lease, she offered a three year lease, backing up her reassurance legally.
This is exactly what the woman needed. During her next visit, Anna saw the photos on the walls. Best of all, this happened years ago. Anna can happily share that this woman has been an incredible tenant for over a decade.
“Most people with mental health conditions have trauma,” someone in the comment section shares. “Trauma victims face anticipatory anxiety which means we can never enjoy the moment. Your trust just healed a little part of that lady, thank you!”
