When traffic starts to build on the highway, there’s always the concern that there’s been an accident. What these drivers on a New York highway don’t expect, however, is a runaway dog. Things get chaotic for a moment but, in the end, the drivers are able to safely rescue this frightened chihuahua from off the busy highway.

But that’s not exactly where this story starts. Rather, it starts with Tammy Richardson and her dog, Bean, at home. The two of them are enjoying their day when, suddenly, a dog scares little Bean. He becomes so frightened, in fact, that he takes off running.
Running to the very back of the backyard simply isn’t enough for Bean. So he keeps going, digging a hole for his escape just under the fence. From here, he quickly makes his way to the Staten Island Expressway.
Thankfully, despite the business of the highway, around 20 cars work together to ensure the rest of traffic slows down and notices Bean. In fact, one woman leaps from her car in an attempt to chase the pup down.

“I jumped out and chased, I didn’t expect that dog could be so fast,” Ella Wolskawoja says.
For some, seeing Ella run down the road is their first indicator that something is going on. Though, at first, many of them still aren’t sure what to make of what they see.
“I was like, ‘Why is this woman running on the highway?'” Kaitlin McGinley recalls. “The dog ran under my car and hid under my tire. Someone gave me a bag, and I scooped him up and put him in the car.”
Thankfully, this story has a happy ending. After causing quite a bit of chaos, Bean is now safe and back home. And, hopefully, not anywhere near any other “scary” dogs that could frighten him away.
