When Katy announced her exit after seven seasons of being a judge, fans immediately took to social media to ask Kelly to join the series because she has the perfect background. Not only is Kelly a Grammy-winning singer, but she also has experience after coaching The Voice, she’s a genuinely likable person, and she became famous after winning the first season of American Idol.
But Kelly can’t commit to the series’ location or grueling filming schedule. In an exclusive interview with ET, she explained that her kids come first.
“No. No. I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids,” she said. “I was like, ‘I wanna be there as much as I possibly can. And it would put me in L.A., and that’s why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much.”
Kelly Clarkson retired from The Voice after the L.A. lifestyle and busy work schedule began affecting her mental well-being. She ended up moving her children, Remington, 8, and River Rose, 9, and her hit daytime series, The Kelly Clarkson Show, to New York for a fresh start.
“I wanted a life for us,” she continued. “And we enjoy the park every day, and we enjoy each other. As a parent — people get this — you only get so much time until they don’t want to hang out with you. That’s the reason [I can’t do Idol]. It’s my kiddos.”
