Woman Leaps Into River To Rescue Ferret During Fourth Of July Celebration

A woman swims in a river as a group of people watch her from above

There are countless ways to celebrate the 4th of July. For those in Rhode Island, that includes the WaterFire Providence. For the 30th year, this event provided guests with a whole list of incredible musical artists. This cherished event brings in folks from all over — not all of which are human, it turns out. This year, a curious ferret found their way near the Providence River, where the event takes place. Unfortunately, the poor little ferret fell into the river, prompting a full-blown rescue mission.

While most people who noticed the ferret were unsure of how they could best help, there was a single person who knew exactly what to do. With little to no hesitation, this heroic person dove into the Providence River. Luckily, someone named Emily caught the heroic rescue on camera and has since shared in on social media. You can watch the successful rescue mission for yourself in the video below!

The rescuer wastes no time as she swims her way over to the struggling ferret. Meanwhile, the folks nearby can’t help but cheer her on, especially during big moments. This includes the moment the rescuer catches the ferret and the moment it’s confirmed the ferret makes it onto dry land. Speaking of which, shoutout to the kind folks on the boat who rescued both the woman and ferret!

Fourth of July Celebration in Providence Includes an Unexpected Ferret Rescue

As many people have taken note, the water this brave rescuer jumped into was far from clean. Still, all she cared about was making sure this animal got to safety. What a hero!

“Awh poor little buddy in the water. She’s so awesome for saving him. They both deserve lots of hugs,” one person shares in the comments, with another adding, “This is an original experience.”
