One mom is celebrating two statistically remarkable bundles of joy this holiday season after giving birth to twins from separate uteruses. Kelsey Hatcher, 32, has known about her rare second womb since she was a teenager. She was already a mom of three when she found out that she was expecting twins. However, this time, something was different. Both of her uteruses were being utilized in this pregnancy, a phenomenon she was told has about a one in 50 million chance of happening. Now that’s a Christmas miracle!

NPR tells us that Kelsey gave birth to two daughters, Roxi and Rebel, in mid-December at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Doctors overseeing the unusual pregnancy had never seen anything like it! Dr. Shweta Parel, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, had helped deliver Kelsey’s previous child. Even though she knew about the mom’s situation, she still wasn’t expecting to encounter twins from two uteruses.
Dr. Richard O. Davis also assisted Kelsey during her double-womb birth. Although he’s an expert in high-risk pregnancies, he’d never attended a case like hers, either.
Twins Born From Separate Uteruses… on Separate Days!
Roxi and Rebel are considered fraternal twins, but these two babies from separate uteruses don’t actually share the same birthday. Roxi was born in the evening on December 19, while Rebel was born via c-section early the next day.
“They decided they were rare enough statistically that they should just go ahead and have their own birthdays too,” Kelsey joked on Instagram.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, this mom’s unique condition is called uterus didelphys, or a double uterus. Only 0.3% of the population experiences this anomaly. Although it can cause issues during pregnancy, Kelsey and her two twins from different uteruses are doing just fine!
