You Don’t See That Every Day: Fisherman Spots Entire House Floating In The Ocean

A fisherman stands on a boat, near the edge, looking out at the ocean. The top of a house can barely be seen at a distance, bobbing in the ocean.

You never know what you will see out on the water. There are all sorts of interesting creatures out there — though, we would prefer to stay far away from many of them. Folks like commercial fisherman are especially accustomed to unusual moments out at sea. Still, even Shannon Dudley Jr. found himself at a loss for words over what he came across recently.

The commercial fisherman was out on the job when the moment happened. The Gulf of Mexico seemed pretty clear when, suddenly, something massive peaked through the waves. Getting closer, it was clear they had stumbled across a house floating in the ocean. Needless to say, Shannon had to capture this find on camera. Check it out in the video below.

Fisherman Shares Footage of the Floating House He Spotted On the Ocean

As of this article being written, no details have been shared about this home — though, it is suspected that recent hurricanes (Helene and Milton) may be the culprits. That said, some internet sleuths have a theory of their own. From the looks of it, they say that this floating home very well may be the “Chapel on the Bay.”

Although the “Chapel on the Bay” has been around for quite some time, folks began talking about it again earlier this year. It started as a wedding chapel — it was even known as America’s only self-proclaimed wedding chapel at one point. But then, in 2015, it was renovated, though features like the rooftop spire and stain-glass windows remained the same. Since then, this chapel-turned-home has gone up for sale a number of times.

So, while it has not been confirmed that the house Shannon found is the Chapel on the Bay, his video certainly has people talking — and they probably will be for quite a while!
